Frequently Asked Questions

  • Men’s Sheds are most definitely not just for retirees. In fact, we are encouraging the younger generation to join our us so we can learn from each other. However, for legal and safety reasons, we can only approve member applications of people aged 18 or older.

  • Historically, Men’s Shed organisations started exclusively for men supporting fellow men. Over time, practices evolved and some Sheds are now open to female members. Here at Lalor and District Men’s Shed, we welcome anyone regardless of gender, culture and ability. Women are most definitely welcome to join our Shed.

  • Our membership fee is already heavily subsidised. Member fees contribute to payment for insurance, rent, utilities and maintenance costs of the Shed and other equipment. For only $50 ($40 for non-wage earners) per year, you can access the Shed whenever it is open, use the tools and equipment and meet friendly new people. All extra fundraising efforts by members of our Shed are donated to charity.

  • The main purpose of our Men’s Shed is to improve your health and well-being so you don’t feel isolated. We provide the space and the tools so you can work on your projects, pursue your hobbies or learn at your own pace. Remember, there is no pressure! You can even just drop by for the social interaction. How you make use of your time at the Shed is entirely up to you.
